Building Self Confidence In Your Child

There are many people that even when they are adults they have a low self esteem and lack of confidence, there are many reasons for this but the most common one is that it develops when one is a child, our early life has a huge impact in our values and beliefs that later will form our personality in a good or bad way.

That is why building self confidence in a child is very important, we need to be careful of how we talk with our children, how we punish them, what restriction we are making and what we should encourage in them.

So we need to use different ways to improve confidence in our child, here are some things you can do:

You should avoid punishments that make him feel bad about his abilities or talents. If he fails an exam or has poor performance in a sport, you should encourage him to do it better and tell him that you support him.

You must void humiliations or punishments in front of friends or other people, sometimes it can create a negative feeling in him and be permanent.

You should encourage him to be creative and do things that he likes or believes in. If he wants to do a sport, support him, if he wants to create something or try something new, support him.

Let him take some risks, sometimes parents avoid children from doing many things because of the risk involved, sometimes we also avoid our children from doing things because we dont want him to fail in something we know he cant do. Let him take risks that are not harmful, he should experience by himself and if he fails, he have to get up and try again.

Dont be over protective, this is similar to the above point, you should let your child take some of his decisions as long as is something good or not harmful. Many parents make the mistake of making the child to ask for help and permission for everything.

Encourage him to play with his friends and meet new friends at school and parties, this should help him to be comfortable in social activities.

Those points should help your child to build self confidence and avoid the many mistakes that parents make. In the house fights between parents can affect the confidence of the kid so be careful with that too.
